got bored and did some quick personal experimenting with the rest of solm cast

before head texture edits / after

adjusting skintones in engage usually means having to adjust their head model textures too to account for certain things like outlines etc. normally you can get away not doing this if the change is small (like bunet pictured above), but if its a more drastic change, you'll need to do this otherwise things like the outlines for mouth/whatever else looks off

male characters are normally a lot easier because their head model changes alongside the skintone value but female characters require more manual image editing since their head wont change with the in-game value to account for things like makeup/blush etc.

“All right, here goes nothin’,” Panette mutters with a wicked grin on her face. 

One must always be prepared for combat, this much is true where she had grown up and maybe less now here at the academy, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a little extra… practice. Granted, being sneaky is not Panette’s forte from the way she dresses, speaks, and even down to her weapon choice. The axe is strong but slow and even her fists, well there is no subtlety there. 

She has been working to improve on it, though this is her first attempt at it really. Presently, she hides in a large bush waiting for her subject to pass by. So far she has been masterfully concealed as no one seems to pay her any mind, or they just do not care.

She stays on her toes until she spots another shade of red. Wait… Wait… Panette leaps out, leaving a flutter of leaves in her wake and jumps in front of her. “Hah!” Feeling satisfied with her performance, her lips curl into a small smile. “Greetings Etie, was that enough to affright you? I have been working on my sneaking skills.”

There's a nondescript hum on Etie's lips as she walks through the courtyard, rhythmically tapping a pair of gardening shears against her palm. Today was her turn to volunteer in the greenhouse, and the thought of tending to so many varieties of flowers and plants had her in a pretty good mood.

Unbeknownst to her, something was about to dampen that mood...

In the form of a pale, ghoulish girl, leaping from the bushes—the combination of vibrant makeup, tattered patches of colorful cloth edging her skirts, and golden eyes framed by fiery hair, all melded together for one striking jumpscare. And for Etie's part? She was certainly scared.

Etie whips out the gardening shears, waving them threateningly at the girl as she flails into a defensive stance. "WAAAAAH... hhhya... ya... yah...?"

She pauses as recognition dawns, shears hanging limp in her hand. "...Wait, Panette? Geez! Well, it sure did work! Couldn't you have greeted me in a more—I don't know—conventional way!? A 'hello' would have sufficed!"

A short huff, as her expression slowly softens. "Buuut... conventional isn't how we redheads do things, is it? It's why we get along so well." She grins, "Sneaking practice aside, it's great to see you again. I had no idea you were coming! I'd show you around, but I've got a date with a few flowers..." She gestures to the greenhouse in the distance, "Unless you'd like to join me?"

Alear fed Sommie some oranges he picked from the orchard, watching as Sommie excitedly wagged their tail.

The ring on his finger began to shake as Lumine suddenly materialized next to it.

(Lumine) "Aww! Your dog...-Er, cat? Dogcat, looks so cute!"

(Alear) "Hah, it's name is Sommie. And honestly, I'm not too sure what it is either."

Lumine extended a hand to pet it, only to phase through it.

(Lumine) "Grr, damn these ghost hands!"

Alear chuckled, turning to her.

(Alear) "Don't worry, I'll make sure to pet them for you. Did you ever own pets back in your world?"

(Lumine) "Yeah, actually! In my Teapot, I had a few cats and dogs, and a boar! And Razor, if you wanna get technical."

(Alear) "A...teapot?"

(Lumine) "Long story. Involved a kind old lady and a lawyer who did NOT shut up."

(Alear) "Pot calling the kettle black there, Lumine. I'm fairly positive you're older than all of us except maybe Tiki-"

(Alear) "Anyways, how did you even fit all that inside a teapot?"

(Lumine) "Oh, it was a magical one. I got to fit an entire island, including all my friends and a mansion inside it. It was all managed by a bird named Tubby."

(Alear) "That sounds...interesting. And who's Razor?"

(Lumine) "Razor is a kid raised by wolves. He was really sweet."

(Alear) "Like Panette?"

(Lumine) "Yeah, like Panette! Though he isn't able to speak as fluently as her. Acted like a wolf sometimes too, though that was mostly habit."

(Alear) "Do you think he'd enjoy pets as well?"

(Lumine) "Hah, I actually used to give him headpats whenever we were together. I'm sure he'd like it from you as well."

(Alear) "I'd like to meet some of your friends from Tevyat some day. They all sound interesting."

(Lumine) "That world sure is a strange bunch. It's not home, but...it feels like it, you know?"

(Lumine) "And honestly? I only trust them meeting you, everyone else in this place is SOOOO weird!"

(Lumine) "I'm pretty sure Bunet would want to literally eat him."

(Lumine) "I literally watched him ask if he could like some sauce stain off your shirt, and overheard him wanting to lick Jade's armor. Let's face it, your army is full of nothing but weirdos."

(Alear) "There's some normal people here!"

(Lumine) "Name one person that isn't weirdly abscessed with one singular thing."

(Alear) "Well, there's Celine-"

(Lumine) "All she does is talk about tea! I don't think I've seen her mention a single conversation without it!"

(Lumine) "If Alcryst tried apologizing to the wolves in Tevyat like he did with the ones here, they'd eat him alive."

Lumine raised a finger but suddenly stopped herself.

She's sure it's a strange sight. Anyone who sees what Yunaka is carrying might assume she's trying to get rid of it, or that she's going to target someone with a horrible, heartless prank as some kind of revenge.

The reality is neither of those things, but she's not interested in wasting time explaining.

"Heya, Panette! Check out this thing." Yunaka holds up a jar that she's tossed some leaves and a branch into. She's seen these sorta setups before, but she wasn't quite sure what exactly was best to put in them. She hopes it's good enough for the spider that is crawling around inside. It doesn't seem too mad, but Yunaka doesn't speak spider.

"Is this a cute one? I found it crawling around in my room, and I figured I'd best check in with the expert to figure out if it was something I should worry about or not." She grins and holds the jar out for her to take. "You can keep her though, if you want! Happy birthday!"

“Huh?” Panette swivels around, head tilted to see Yunaka. She hadn’t expected any visitors today, friends or not, so it takes her a second to register what the redhead approached her for. She spots the glass jar and with closer inspection past the branch and leaves was a spider with marvelous spots and coloring. At first, she thinks she is just being shown the arachnid until her ears catch wind of the last sentence yet she hardly believes it.

“You’re giving her to me?” She blinks. “Do not get be mistaken; I would be more than grateful to take her off your hands if you’re really insisting that I have this gorgeous creature.”

Panette mirrors her grin with a possibly more gleeful one as she reaches out to take the jar from her hands. Though she doesn’t understand others' disturbance and was quite regretful that she released the last one to Griss of all people, this totally makes up for it. And on her birthday too, imagine that!

“Thank you, Yunaka, this means more to me than you may know.”

how about Ivy engage for the character ask game!

first impression: she was a character i was very excited for when she was first announced. i love characters that start as an enemy but end up switching sides and i could tell that's what they were going for. once i actually met her i experienced some disappointment over the way the game refused to engage with how interesting she could be.

impression now: i've made my peace with engage being like that and my opinion of her has risen back up. i find the complexity of her love for elusia combined with their worship of a being who ended up destroying them for his own game while she has always placed her faith in the divine dragon really interesting. i also love how her composure isn't effortless for her.

favorite moment: her resignation when she's left to die defending the border always stood out to me. i liked the impact of this turnaround from her appearing to be confident and in control in the previous chapter to how subdued she is at her father's orders.

idea for a story: i can't remember if the game confirms that she went to the same academy that hortensia and co were attending a few years back, but i think it would be really interesting to explore her time there. did she have any friends there or did her status as the crown princess keep everyone at arm's length? what was it like for her to be away from home? was it a relief to be away from it all or was she too worried about what might be happening while she was gone?

unpopular opinion: i'm really not sure what the popular engage opinions are, but i really like how ivy's retainers are very much so employees and how that contrasts with other lord and retainer trios - especially her sister's. i think it very effectively shows how isolated ivy is.

favorite relationship: i care a lot about her and hortensia. they're in such a difficult and complex situation and being a family is so important to them but being a family at all comes with the baggage of their parents. i've also been getting her supports with panette in the playthrough i'm currently doing and i love the version of their relationship in my head where they talk about their complicated relationships with the religions they grew up in.

"Greetings Faye." Panette hands a cup of cider to her former teammate before taking a sip herself. "I must say, you put up quite the fight out there. I'm certain your deadly skills could send your opponents away and afeard, if they are not already."

Faye instinctively takes the cup of yellow-ish liquid that is offered by the other's hands, initially nervous to speak of her past failure. However, even though she was unable to protect her fellow student in battle and unable to avenge her afterwards, Panette was...not angry? Faye could see herself fuming if in the same position as her, falling due to an ally's slip-up. And yet...

"Thanks, Panette," Faye glady speaks from her initial pause, the warmth of the beverage in her hand pushing back physical and metaphorical chills. "But you were super good out there too! I could never imagine lugging around an axe and using my fists at the same time! I could learn from you, if you uh...don't mind."

The villager goes for a small sip of the drink, discovering its identity to be a spicy cider. Not her...preferred pick for a relaxing refreshment, though the spiciness does cancel out the initial bitter taste somewhat. But sharing such a drink with a friend (Or comrade? Are we friends or comrades? Is there a difference?) makes it slightly easier to gulp down.

Fogado also references fun in his quotes along with good time and party to express his personality. They both display confidence in their quotes and ruthlessness. Fogado shows a little more mercy and clearly would prefer not to fight, Timerra seems much more eager to get into the next battle.

Pandreo references his role as a man of the cloth by using religious language.

Her muscle bulk still needed a bit of work... but she at least felt stronger, and that was the important thing. All the better to protect her friends with.

"Thanks. My abs are glorious, aren't they?" She grins proudly, "I've been trying to incorporate more Brodian strength exercises into my usual routine. Did you know that King Diamant runs over three mountain ranges? BEFORE breakfast?"

She shakes her head, tongue clicking. "I heard it from Jade once, and just about nearly lost my head! Those guys are on a completely different level... I'd love to be there, too."

Etie pauses as an idea comes to her, and she perks up, beaming. "Hey! Maybe we can run together! I've got strong legs, and you can swing an axe around like no one's business—I bet you can handle a mountain range or three."
